On the board I read, I am only interested in one of the topics , which is not updated very often. How do I get the RSS feed so I can know as soon as someone posts so I can go and reply?

I do not believe that there is currently an RSS option with Zetaboards, certainly there isn't a default function.

It might be possible for RSS to be implemented but it would be up to the individual admin of the forum in question to resource and supply the RSS option though it would not as a third party application be something that this support forum could be involved in

RSS feeds are possible but almost impossible to convince someone to code one for you. They're server intensive (to index topics) and bandwidth heavy.

Ah ok thanks. I'll have to try to remember to check the topic then. Surely a topic on a forum is no more server intensive than, say, a series of posts on a blog?

Well, keep in mind that we can't directly edit the "software" (if you will) that powers ZetaBoards. Instead, we have to use regular ol' modifications and the only way we can do things involving the server is to use our own.

If we could edit the PHP that powers ZB, then yes, a RSS feed would be a simple task... unfortunately, as it is, you have to configure a server to load a whole bunch of web pages every so often to check for the updates and so on, which is extremely intensive.

No, not currently. The announcements forum is the best place to keep an eye on for new feature news. :)
