I've heard good things about this site, but I learned from two sites. One of them is so far out of date that it's worthless now and the other is w3schools, which is (thankfully) always up to date.

Edit: Forgot the .com on that.. lol

I really recommend HTMLDog over w3schools. w3schools instills bad habits. :p

... what kind of bad habits would these be?

Will believes in nesting tags properly and will ban anyone who doesn't agree.

"Hey, let's teach them layouts... with tables!" and that sort of thing. :p

These days, W3Schools is a bit more up to date. But even now, they are basically telling your to define your styling in the HTML document (http://w3schools.com/html/html_styles.asp) - sure they use style="background: #123456;" instead of bgcolor="#123456" but that doesn't make it any better in my opinion. And the taglist (http://w3schools.com/tags/default.asp) should contain way more notices that things are depricated.

thanks for all your support guys.

quite a few things were wrong with w3schools Will. It didn't give me any support on HTML and did about the same as some other wicked weird website.

Of course, we're talking about learning basic HTML here. Pretty much everyone started out with black background websites with deprecated bold tags and the whatnot. It's the easiest way to learn is with simple concrete things. HTML works pretty much regardless of the browser.

Sure, now a lot of HTML stuffs are deprecated and obsolete with CSS, but that's a whole new step. If you're looking to learn HTML, start with easy stuff and work your way up to understand what you're doing. It's easy to 'upgrade' your knowledge. It's hard to start out trying to figure out how to float lists to make a decent looking table.

I've always found w3schools to be a good starting spot for almost anything. Get the basics down, and then start learning how to modify and get up-to-date with CSS.

It's better to learn once than to learn once again. Start with HTML Dog and do things the right way.
