Wow, the best news for gamers everywhere! Anyone planning on getting a PS3 now that it's affordable?

Kaz Hirai, "From which he picks up the new slimmer PS3, available in the first week of September"
"How's this for a description: it's a PS3, but slimmer"
"smaller, lighter, all the same features your current PS3 has"
"It will be available for 299 euros, 299 dollars and 29,980 yen."
"The price has also JUST dropped for all current PS3s on the shelf."

There was a thunderous applause.

Here are some specs/video:
120GB, 33% smaller, 36% lighter.

It's good that they've improved the model and dropped the price but I probably won't be picking one up for a long time. There's nothing on the PS3 that makes me want to get one anytime soon so I'll just stick to my 360 for now.

I was pondering the idea and I've realised how many great exclusives there are on the PS3:
Infamous, MAG, Killzone 2, MGS4, Littlebig Planet, Uncharted 2, etc.
Worth the buy at €299? I'm still not sure.

I would say yes, although I bought one at $399. I can't wait for Uncharted 2. It looks awesome and keeps on winning many awards: "Best game of show", "Best Console Game", "Best Action/Adventure Game", etc...

The game I'm most looking forward to though is Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time and Modnation Racers. Modnation Racers looks like the ultimate kart racer. Better than Crash Team Racing by far!

Fattest lie ever. The Slim still doesn't have backwards compatibility, which sucks majorly. I had to go out and buy a new PS2 to play some of my favorite games. :-/

You can't change the HDD, you can't play ps2 games and it's about 2 inches smaller in width and length. Is it really worth it?

Mine! Or I will help you not.

Maybe for Christmas. I could use a blu-ray player.

Heh, I apologize. I read a review on IGN that said you couldn't.

You can change the HDD, you are not required to use an expensive proprietary HDD to upgrade, and it is quite a bit thinner. Worth it? Yes, the games PS3 has are great. I bought a PS3 to play PS3 games, I have a PS2 for PS2 games, and it would be rather weird if someone had a bunch of PS2 games and no PS2 games to play them on.

Currently, hardware-wise, the PS3 is the best value for your money. Only $50 more than a Wii and the same price as a 120 gig 360.

What happened to your PS2 that you needed to buy another one?

I've referring if the slimline is worth it. I own the 'fat' PS3 and I agree, it's outstanding. However, I don't feel it's worth picking up the slimline for the 'features' it has. As for the HDD, I did post again mentioning my mistake.

Sorry, your post wasn't up when I started posting. I can't believe IGN would give out bad information like that.

Well that makes quite a bit of difference. If you have a fat PS3, it's not worth it unless you want one for different rooms/someone that lives with you. The Slim is really for people who couldn't afford a PS3 yet. I know a ton of people who have been waiting till it dropped to $299.

Everybody knows Sony has a detonation button up in their top secret control base that they use when they release a new console. Dell does it too... especially after warranties expire. -_-

That made me giggle because I experienced the same issue. My PlayStation 2 died just after it went out of warranty :glare:

lol, shows sony can't keep up with the 360's success. If you really want your money's worth, get a 360 now. No more RROD errors, best variety of games, etc. This is sony's attempt at selling more ps3's in Asia.
