The Snow Came Down...

First, sorry for such a broad topic name, I was having a hard time coming up with a good way to word it. Now, on to the topic.

The United States is one of the largest countries in the western hemisphere, and we import a large amount of our products and goods. We also produce many of them here in the country. In either case, they do not just stay where they are produced or imported, they must be shipped all around the country to our stores, markets and homes.

There are a vast number of ways in which this can be done, most of which will consist of inter modal (between different methods) transportation, or it will travel by only one method (not including the car ride home with the consumer). These methods are often by ship, planes, trucks, and railroads.

Each of these methods has it's pros and cons, and this topic is set up to discuss which mode is the better one, as well as views as to how the system could be improved. I'll post my views and contribute to the discussion as a post begins.
