In the last decade, it has become common to see popular books adapted into movies. Some notable examples include The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Harry Potter series, The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons along with many adaptions of classic novels by authors such as Shakespeare, Jane Austin etc. Many times, the movies can not fully portray everything that happens in the book either due to the way the book was written or due to the movie's length. A prime example of this is the Harry Potter films which can not fully depict every chapter in the books because they are too long. The final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be two separate movies and even then, they will not be able to include every scene from the book. In addition to books, graphic novels such as Sin City, 300, The Spirit and Watchmen have been adapted to the big screen. Watchmen has been praised by fans claiming that it is as close as one could get to the portraying the graphic novel on film. Other fans criticize the movie for changing the ending and leaving out or changing scenes. In this topic, we will discuss the original medium and then the movie adaptations. We will discuss whether movies should be made longer and in multiple parts in order to fully adapt the original source or if some books should not be made into movies. Also, with the recent adaptions of novels like John Adams into television miniseries, we will discuss if some books would better serve as a mini series as opposed to a summer movie. Topic Rules
