The landscape of Late Night Comedy has shifted this Spring. Conan O'Brien is now the host of the Tonight Show , replacing Jay Leno. In an effort to keep Leno, NBC has completely changed it's week night line-up by giving Jay Leno the 10pm slot every weekday. This is considered by many to be a gamble by NBC that may not pay off. ABC and CBS have been adjusting their 10pm slots accordingly to draw viewers away from Leno. NBC hopes that while other stations are playing re-runs and are on hiatus, viewers will flock to Leno. While Conan has moved onto the Tonight Show, his Late Night show is now hosted by Jimmy Fallon, a former cast member from Saturday Night Live. The jury is still out on Fallon's new job, but many critics do not believe he will last long. Fallon is criticized for being too nervous and jumpy and the jokes in his opening monologue are not always hits. Some argue that he is just finding his footing in this new job. Over at CBS, Craig Ferguson has gained a small boost by Conan's vacancy and Fallon's struggles. However, he is still not well known to many viewers. David Letterman has been in the news recently for a joke made at the expense of Sarah Palin's daughter. While Letterman has apologized and clarified that he meant Palin's daughter Bristol and not her younger daughter who was actually at the Yankee game, many supporters of Palin are outraged. A group of 15 protesters stood outside the studio demanding that Letterman be fired for the remarks. This has actually resulted in a boost to Letterman's ratings. In this topic, we will discuss the Late Night talk show hosts as well as the large change at NBC with the addition of Jay Leno's 10pm slot. Topic Rules
