That site doesn't seem to be horribly accurate, unless Google.com doesn't work in the vast majority of browsers...... including Firefox 3. :P

IE8 can render pages in IE7-mode, either through a tag on the page or a button somewhere. Unless you're required to cater to older releases as well, I wouldn't worry about it. IE6 is as old as the stars and needs to be put to rest. Posted Image

Amen. It's too bad every single computer in my entire school system has IE6 by default.

... And what's even better? They're all "frozen" as the tech department says - that is, changes you make will not carry through a restart.

Luckily enough, the school system mandates that all computers be shut down at the end of the day for 'energy saving purposes.' So yeah. Every day... IE6.

Same...well the hospital I work at has IE6 on every computer. It works for what we use it for, but it's still a pain in the butt :P We sometimes like to look up on google maps where a patient is coming from if they're late, then we can say 'Well they have no excuse!' or say 'Eh, probably bad traffic'.
Facebook doesn't work too well on IE6 though :r

So basically if I stick that tag in the top of every webpage - I don't need to worry about IE8 at all ? :O

Ever since IE7 came out, it's been my belief that the best course of action is to only support the latest version of Internet Explorer. Anything less than that up until now will probably force you to either compromise your design in some way or work longer hours writing that IE-specific stylesheet. Nowadays, IE8 will render CSS2 just as well as the other major browsers—you can see a list of supported properties on MSDN. But if your heart's set on supporting the now-outdated versions, I won't stop you. Posted Image

As another approach, you could also check out the ie7-js project (more from the author here). It is "a JavaScript library to make Microsoft Internet Explorer behave like a standards-compliant browser." I don't have any personal experience with it, but it might be interesting.

Seems interesting, I'll check it out. I always try to cater to IE 6+ as many people still use it, normally in offices and schools - where you normally can't change your browser. Also, ZetaBoards supports IE6, as does jQuery so it's pretty much an incentive.

Really? All of our university computers have Firefox 3 other than a few quick-use ones that just have IE7. It's like the standard 3rd-party browser at our campus, similar to the way Safari comes standard with Macs.

Really, people should upgrade to the latest versions. They're available for a reason.

I've given up on IE since it created so much problems for me when skinning. They can come out with newer versions but I just don't care anymore :p

Internet Explorer 8 is rather annoying. It still disregards web standards, and it tried to make itself my default browser, without my asking. :-/

I'm totally going to use the uninstall-I.E. feature in Windows 7 (After downloading FireFox, of course. :-P).

IE 8 doesn't feel good at all to use. The UI looks even worse than IE7.

I felt it looked exactly like IE7. Except for that extra toolbar which name escapes me right now.

Well yes, plus they changed the tab bar to that vile, pale blue colour, which clashes completely with the toolbar above. Double yuck yuck.

I am working on a small project and was just making a simple setup with two side-by-side divs by floating the one to be on the right, and IE7 (well, IE8 compatibility mode), FF3.5, and Chrome render it perfectly. I flip the switch back to IE8 rendering and the beauty goes *poof*. Honestly, why can't they just adopt a good rendering engine instead of messing with their own? Trident is a grade-A PoC.
