Okay, I opened up my IE 8 browser for some code testing about 10 minutes ago and it came up with a sub window (not a tab) telling me to input my custom settings for IE 8. It now looks a bit different as well. Does this mean it's out of beta now? Or am I really slow and it came out 3 years ago?

You can uninstall IE8 and have IE7 again.

Although, from my experience, if you install IE8 on XP and then uninstall it, you then cannot uninstall IE7 to return to IE6 as you were able to if you only installed up to IE7. Confusing isn't it? :P

.....

Gosh I hope IE8 has improved since it's beta. It was fairly yucky last time I used it. Of course now I can't use any version of IE because I'm on a Mac.

It has improved, but it is still rather yucky. I doubt there will be many people switching back to IE because of it.

It's definitely a bit better - I mean it actually closes without me having to end the process in my task manager now - although it still sucks <.< . I'm not uninstalling IE8 to install IE7 and vice versa each time I want to test something. Are there no alternatives like profiles or something?

I don't even see why you would ever want to switch to a default Microsoft product. The job of Microsoft is to give you a basic default program to start out with, and if you're using a different program, it means you found something that you like more than the default.

You could set up a multi boot system and install different flavours of IE on each. < shrugs >

Uhh... why?

Depending on what you're testing, this might help.

The why is because it is the first thing I thought of especially since I have this computer configured to boot from either DOS 7, Win98, Win XP home, or Win XP pro. Multi boot configs of the same OS is also possible. < shrugs >

I have heard of that site but had forgotten about it. :$

I will be testing out pages which require you to be logged in, therefore that site doesn't help.

Another thought.

There is a program called Sandboxie ( google it ) which runs programs in an isolated space on your hard drive and is designed not to let the program interfere with your OS.

Perhaps you can set up the other versions of IE within it.

- just a thought as I have not tried it and do not know if it would work.
