http://www.bing.com/ is Microsoft's new search. They are spending 100 million dollars trying to market the thing but why would they succeed this time? I am curios to see if anyone likes this enough to switch over.

Google will never be displaced for me. Google is very fast as well. Bing seems quick too, but unless they add some type of feature that is more attractive than Google's, they will not force me to convert.

Don't get me wrong, it looks fine. Just I've used google for so long that I'm not going to convert "just because."

And the image in the background annoys me. If it changes daily or weekly or something I'll definitely not use it. I want a simplistic, minimal page that takes almost zero time loading. Google fits the bill. The logo changes sometimes but it's always an interesting event that is a cause for celebrating or something I didn't know before. That background image just seems redundant because it's so random. Call me picky. :P

It's a matter of preference...

I for example will not give up using Altavista.com as my primary search engine...

I have been using that since 1995 it hasn't failed me yet. ;)

Bing loads almost faster on my computer so that background image has just about no effect besides adding more to the page. Even if the background did change so does the logo on Google's page (background HAS gone to black before) so that's kind of hypocritical...and that last part didn't even make sense.

Anyway, I'll check it out but I'll probably stick with Google. I just wonder how competent it is compared to Google's search engine.

Google doesn't put images as their background. Going black is just a simple HTLM change..it doesn't make it any longer to load or not. (honestly I would like to see Google with a black background...easier on my eyes.)

Yea right, MS, you would call it "bing." Clearly an attempt to get people to say "bing it" rather than "google it" which has already replaced "search it." :r

I have a super-slow internet connection though. The image takes a little longer to load for me and it looks ugly while it isn't loaded. :P

Wanna bet this is their detection method?:

Code: HTML

<script type="text/javascript">
if(navigator.appName!="Microsoft Internet Explorer"){errorMessages();}
</script>

Come to think of it, if I didn't have CSS enabled, that floating box with the error message wouldn't have been styled, therefore it wouldn't have a higher z-index and wouldn't look right.

I'll take that bet.

It appears to work fine with no popup using K-Meleon with the user agent string modified to "Anonymous".

You need to hover over the 1px vertical line to get the message - they're really clever like that.

MS is omnipotent and omniscient, Viral. You shouldn't question them.

OK, I entered your exact search and I think they are referring to that particular search hit, not the bing page.

When I first tried I was searching for "something". =lol
