The Snow Came Down...

I was working on CSS for a web page that I was making, using Firefox as my primary browser as I usually do when working with CSS. For this project, it just so happened to be a theme. I made custom image borders and the likes, and the main site background color matched with the edges of the border perfectly in Firefox. Then, I opened the site up in Internet explorer to see how it looked. I was surprised to see that the colors did not match up between the border edges of my graphic and the forum background in Internet Explorer! So now, to my main topic, how IE reads CSS. It seems that IE is not quite capable of reading CSS and then displaying colors contained within it properly on the screen with certain Hex codes, for a reason of which I have no idea. I took the time to experiment and found that this was consistent with any colors I tested, which ranged from blues and greys to bright greens. The color that IE displayed from the Hex code was always different from the one at the very edge of the image! I know I have had the proper hex codes, since my image editor (paint.net) shows me the hex of any color I have selected with the color choose. (that is actually a very helpful tool when themeing, but thats for another topic) In fact, the color IE displays dosn't even show the same hex code that is entered when I take a screen and select it with the dropper! This is just among the many CSS issues that I have seen with internet explorer, and I could probably try and go into more detail, but I'll stop there for now. So, what are your views on this? Note: I did not use firefox for a "browser war", but merely as a point of comparison. |

Are the images you're using PNG files? If so, IE and Safari render PNG images differently unless you compress them to split the 'excess junk' out. They commonly appear darker unless compressed. |

Ah that very well could have caused it, because they are PNG. But what I don't get, is how the hex code of the Background appeared different in a screen than what was in the CSS. Now that I'm going to have to investigate, that may be an error in my testing of the bug Edit: Upon repetition of my experiment, I realized that I was comparing to the darkened IE image instead of the original. Silly me

Hey! Don't make fun of IE. It's not its fault that it's color blind... and can't do math... and has an afro, wears bell bottoms, and dances to disco.

Because at one time, Microsoft had the monopoly of web browsers. They didn't care how horrible it was. 90% of the population was going to use it anyway. Now, on the other hand, is a different story. More and more users are realizing each day that there are browsers beyond IE, such as Firefox and Opera. Forcing Microsoft to update and get with the times. Slowly, but surely. |
