One thing I'd always thought was lacking from the InvisionFree support board, and now in the Zeta/IF hybrid one, one thing that I've always envied Proboards Support for having (Especially because they don't allow it for non-Proboards boards). I'd never leave Zeta/IF, I like it, but I've always envied them for this. It's SUCH a successful and USEFUL section. I know you guys probably will never enact a suggestion from a random member, but I've always thought this was great and lacking here.
Sounds simple, I know...but it's SOooooo useful, active, and popular there. It's the THIRD biggest part of their Support other than their freaking main Support Forumand Chat Forum! Imagine that! It's not just for spam and whoring out...it's so useful to utilize and so awesome. Advertise your boards, or look around there for boards that interest you. Fish for members and staff for your forum. It's so much fun and so useful and great, it's a major mistake to look down at it in some pseudo-elitist way. You have places to discuss general board utilities and customization, you have Community Creations to share one's works...why not a place to share one's boards, advertisements, and needs like open moderator spots? I'd seriously forumgasm.

Isn't putting the board in our sigs and to the left bar enough for you?

That's not fair to say. We take suggestions very seriously and I'm sure you can find tons of examples of us adding a feature based on a suggestion. With that said, we used to have such a section and it turned out very poorly. I can understand your desire for such a section but there are a ton of reasons it doesn't work out so well, such as topics getting buried in half a second from chain-bumps. As stated above, though, you can advertise in your signature and there is a profile field. I know many advertising guides recommend you do so and be an active part of this community (but don't spam to get your advertisement out or you'll be sorry! )

I was just being humble and self-depreciating. :p I know what you mean about bumping, but that's part of the glorious fun of the board. It's so active and beautiful and integrating for the community. And if bumping/fast posts is an issue, wouldn't it be easy to just turn off the post count, enact stricter rules, or limit posting speed? Did you guys ever try that with such a section? It's a pity yours turned out poorly, but Proboard's is the only thing of theirs I envy with all of my Admin body. It's soooo awesome.
When it comes to forums there's no such thing as enough advertising though, it's about the masses, you guys should realize that. The forum program that allows its creators best access to the masses wins. Though on an unrelated note, speaking of spam advertising, we had a hacker go around and spam advertise our link on other boards in our name, trying to get us reported for TOS violations and deleted. Is there a risk of Zetaboards staff doing that, taking stuff like that at face value and deleting a board without even consulting its staff for the truth? It's a scary thought at a successful method of forum terrorism. Edited by The Fallen Evincar, Oct 25 2008, 04:42 AM.

Trust me, we tried everything. I know for some it would sound perfect, but I promise you it would become a large issue very quickly. I know we have a ton of boards hosted that either exist for no reason other than spamming your board or have such a section. Perhaps looking for those would help?
We investigate things for a while before taking any action at all. I'm certain you'll be safe as long as your intentions are good .

I think this is unnecessary as well. It's exactly the same problem you get with request forums - people coming just to get what they want. We have support for the services, and that's enough. We have both the signature and "My Board URL" section, and if you need a place to include your board in a list of thousands, there's the directory. If this was a more closed-loop community, where most of the people know each other, it'll work better. But people come and go constantly because of support. Random advertisements by such people piling up isn't going to be of any help to integrate the community. If the links are in your signature or profile, people will see them as they look at your posts and know whose they are, so they won't be as random. Edited by cvn-tv-dip, Oct 25 2008, 12:31 PM.

Advertising the way you put it wouldn't be beneficiary to actually giving support. All it would do for the community is get the post count up. (Which isn't really a major concern here.. 2million posts). However, I do see how it could be useful. If members need to find a certain type of forum such a location would be easy. The advertising should be organized, and ranked so that members know what the best place to go to... Oh wait, I'm getting something... this is bringing something to mind.. oh yes!
