This sentence is false.

My computer consists of a radio hooked up to a lemon and and an ethernet connection. The radio then interprets the electrical signals sent through the ethernet jack and outputs them as Morse code to which I listen. Then I use a telegraph machine to input in the form of Morse code.

I never knew support staff had that much free time on their hands. You guys are slacking off! :O

Although I am still new to Vista, so far, both Vista and XP have their pros and cons. I find my cheap and old XP desktop faster than my brand new $1000 laptop with very nice specs. It may just be because a mouse is easier and faster than a touch pad, I get more through my LCD computer screen, and that my computer is connected through a cable.

The plus to my laptop is portability, ability to connect to any plasma TV or projector with its portability, and extremely awesome gaming experience (because my desktop sucks when it comes to gaming).

Oh, and I installed Ubuntu Hardy Heron on my sister's old, crappy HP laptop. Stopped using it after I got my Dell Studio.

I use Windows XP (Media Center Edition 2005) with SP3. It's very nice. I also have Xubuntu on a decently-sized partition on my external hard drive.

The primary computer I use has Windows Vista, but I also have one with XP which I use to print stuff, check e-mail, etc.

I used Ubuntu for a long time, and then I got lazy and just stuck with XP.

My laptop runs Vista and I hate it, but it wont install XP so :/.

Shamefully, Vista. Although, it hasn't died out on me yet. Like Nicola, hoping to get an iMac soon.

Vista hasn't died on me either... and I think that's my problem with it

Let's see:

- Ever since I first switched this laptop on, I've had multiple error messages at startup. Googling them reveals nothing. Vista's "hey I'll find a solution for you" feature is pants and has never ever found a solution to any error.
- Even after using it for nearly 2 years, some things are confusing. Like setting up a new WiFi... which was terribly simple on XP. OR maybe it was because the ISP didn't provide instructions for Vista ^o)
- Every time there is a windows update, my laptop switches itself on to install it. ALWAYS at 3am. This means I wake up and my laptop is cooking away and feels like an oven when I open it. There is usually some message from someone on AIM (Trilly starts automatically where MSN doesn't) saying "Why are you up so late?" too, heh.
- With each update, booting up takes longer and longer.
- I'm using Vista Basic, and its STILL a total RAM hog. I upgraded from 1gb to 2gb RAM, and I didn't notice any difference. I need RAM! Firefox uses 500mb of RAM most days from all the tabs I have open/tabs I open and then close etc. I have to restart Firefox a lot because it just gets so slow. Maybe that's Firefox's issue, dunno. I then usually have Photoshop open, maybe Aptana, both require lots of RAM. There WAS this program at startup which I never used, which used to gradually take up more and more RAM, until it was using around 700mb of ram at one point, until I stopped it. Nutsy.
- I know it's basic, but the option to change colour schemes is severely limited. You can tint the black! oooh...
- Search sucks. Perhaps I'm blind, but I can't select what specific file type to search for. This is not useful to me personally at all.

It does have its good points, though. As someone point out, you could mute sound from programs and adjust the volume. Security improvements make you confirm changes/program installs via Administrator.

I know, it looks like I'm bashing Vista, but I'm really just listing why I'm sick of Vista :r

If you have a local Apple store, just go in and play. You can get a good feel of it before the staff there get annoyed with you and boot you out.
...I'm kidding, but you can try them out if you live near a store.
Yeah Meadowhall has an Apple store that allows you to have a little play on the computers, but with being a teenager (well, technically an adult but ...I look like I'm just hitting puberty {I have a "young face"} ^o) ) they just think am doing what every other teenager does there; mess around with settings and visit MySpace /etc ... so you always feel like there's someone watching (despite the fact; there usually is {it's a busy shop} ), basically, I don't find it a good way to test the operating system. I need at least a few hours to fully test things.

Your laptop switches on for Windows Updates at 03:00? ^o) Sure you're shutting it down and not hibernating or sleeping? I've never known a computer turn on for Windows Updates, just out the blue--hmmm, may have to try that.

Control Panel - Windows Update (Usually the last one) - Change Settings (On the left hand side) and check the box "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them".

That should fix your problem.

You can keep 'Install updates automatically (recommended)' selected, just change the time from the drop-down menu.

If you're away and your computer/laptop suddenly boots up, big waste of electricity.

Now if the computer is turning on from a proper shut down then it hasn't shut down! When a computer shuts down the CPU isn't running/powered, thus the computer can't start up.

Edit: Either way I guess are fine, just making sure all options are given. :D

I have Vista Basic and the only problem I've experienced is the fact that it's a "RAM hog." ^o)
