Problems posting in a particular forum; Bizarre, intermittent problems

This week members on our board have had major problems posting in topics in a particular forum.

One member (the topic starter) tried posting a reply on Monday to a topic and it didn't show up on the board - so she posted again. Neither post showed up on the board. However, if she clicked on New Reply - she saw that both her posts were listed as two (of 10) last replies.

Both myself and our moderator had noticed on Monday that when we were in this forum we were seeing a message that said "This forum has topics/posts awaiting moderation" but there weren't any topics or posts in the moderation queue - they both said zero and just to be sure I selected it and it said "There are no topics left in the moderation queue in this forum". This is all very strange anyway since we didn't have it set to moderate replies (it was, at the time, set to moderate new topics, but NOT any replies).

On Tuesday, our other Admin finally was able to get the posts to show up after posting some test replies and was able to delete the double post. Members then tried to post replies after the member's post showed up and were told their replies needed moderator approval. Again - it wasn't set to moderate new replies only new topics (and I later changed it to not moderate anything in this forum - but that seemed to make no difference).

Then there seemed to be problems with posts showing up on another topic in this same forum.
Even though posts weren't showing up on the board - from the main board it was listing the newest post as the last post in the forum.
I (root Admin) posted a reply to the topic thinking when I did all posts since the last reply that showed up (a reply from our moderator) would show up. I saw everyone's replies (as previous replies). But my post wasn't showing up - though from the main page it showed as the last reply.

On Wednesday, I created a new forum (renamed the original and made the original invisible) - making sure the new one was not set to moderate any posts (of course the old one which was giving us problems was not set to moderate any posts either). Then I moved all topics from the problem forum into the new one. The posts that hadn't shown up yet were still not showing up when I did this but I posted a test reply and they finally showed up. I was able to delete a double post from a member who had posted again since her original hadn't shown up. Then I deleted my test post and all the replies that had been made visible when I posted the test reply disappeared again.

I then posted a test post - and nothing showed up, but posted another test post and the two tests became visible. I decided to split the topic after the last 'successful' reply (by our moderator) and then merged the posts back in. I then deleted both test replies and this time all other replies stayed intact and after some testing - it looked as everything was ok with these topics in this 'new, duplicate' forum.

On Thursday, everything seemed to work correctly - members were able to post without any reported problems.

However, on Friday - the problem returned. Posts were once again not showing up - until our moderator posted a reply and the previous replies showed up.

These problems seem to have started showing up Monday after the server we are on was offline on and off for a while.

Has anybody else experienced problems like this? Does anybody know what happened? Can someone tell me what I need to do to fix the problem and to avoid it happening again?

Thanks,
tis*me!

Do you have any mods in your board wrappers the deal with topics/forums? If so, post them here please. :)
If that's not the case, you could submit a support ticket and wait for IF to handle it.
