Forum Moderators A moderator (or, more specifically, a "forum moderator") is essentially a member that has moderation privileges in the forum or forums you specify. If you would like to add a moderator who has moderation privileges for the entire board, please see this documentation on how to do so. Note: If you do not want to create a separate group for your moderators and simply want to grant moderation powers to a user in an existing group, skip the first three steps and go directly to the Adding Forum Moderators section below. Creating the Permission Mask (optional) The first step is optional, and involves creating a permission mask for the forum moderator group. You will need to follow this step if you want forum moderators to be able to see forums that an ordinary user cannot. Admin CP > Forum Control > Permission Masks Find the Create a new forum mask section and type "Forum Moderator Permission Mask" in the Permission Mask Name section. Next, select Member Forum Mask from the Inherit forum permission mask from... drop down box, and then click the Create button. Creating the New Group (optional) The second step is also optional, and involves creating the actual group. You will need to follow this step if you would like your moderators to have their own group, rather than just giving them special abilities as a member. Admin CP > Users and Groups > Manage User Groups Find the Add a new member group section, and select Members from the Base new group on... drop down box. Once you have done so, click the Set up New Group button. Type whatever you would like to name the group in the Group Title field, and select the permission mask you just created in the last step for the Use Forum Permission Access... section. Note: If you chose not to create a new permission mask, you can just use one of the default masks such as Members. You can set the other options to what you feel is appropriate for your forum. Once you have finished setting up the group, click the Add Group button at the bottom of the page. Adding Users to the Group (optional) The next step involves moving members into your new group. ACP > Users and Groups > Find/Edit/Suspend User Find the Member Quick Search, and type all or part of the name of the member you want to promote in the Enter part or all of the user's name field. Once you have found the member you want to edit, click the Edit Details link in the row next to their name. Find the Member Group section, and select the group you just created from the drop down box. Once finished, click the Edit this member button at the bottom of the page. Adding Forum Moderators The final step involves setting which forums the user or group has moderation privileges for. ACP > Forum Control > Moderators Select the forums you would like the user or group to have moderation powers in by checking the boxes to the left of the forum's row. Once you have selected the appropriate forum, scroll down to the bottom of the page. In the Type of moderator to add: drop down box, select either "Single Member" or "Member Group depending on whether or not you've created a special group for your moderators by completing the first three steps above. Once you've decided, click the Add a moderator to the selected forums button. If you chose to add a single member, enter the member's name in the box provided on the next page and click the Find Member button once done. If you chose to add a group, select the group from the drop down menu and click the Add this group button. The next page consists of a series of options that allows you to choose which moderation powers you would like the user or group to be able to utilize. Select those which you feel comfortable granting by clicking the Yes bubble for that row. Once you are finished, click the Add this moderator button at the bottom of the page.
