Some versions of it would inject Javascript into web pages you visited. I recall in the early beta days of ZB that the injected JS broke parts of ZB. Hence this little chunk of code in ZB's HTML:
Code:

<!-- /*
<script language="javascript"></script>

*/ #### off Norton -->
I lol'd. :D

Anyways, here are the problems with Norton that I see:

  • It doesn't uninstall completely
  • Older versions injected JavaScript into web pages
  • It has a high false-positive rate, and fails to detect the real viruses half of the time.
  • It's a resource hog, and doesn't know how to concede resources to other programs like other modern AVs
  • IT USES SIGNATURES

If you're ever in the market for a new AV, I would recommend Kaspersky Internet Security¹. However, if you're pressed for cash, go with Avast.

Of course, you could always jump ship to Linux. :wub:

Anyways, good luck with your new AV, I wish you much better luck than you had with Norton.

¹Kaspersky Internet Security scans for all types of Malware, and is a firewall.
